 Thammasat University - A Leader of Sustainable Campus

22 August 2016, At Rangsit Centre, Rector Somkit Lertpaithoon, VR Prinya Thaewanarumitkul and Gasinee Witoonchart jointly declared the launch of Solar Roof on Thammasat Climate Action Project in the support of Solartron Co.,Ltd. represented by Mr. Cherdpong Siriwit, the Chairman, to commit on the 15-megawatt target of solar energy by end of 2017.  The achievement of such action will allow Thammasat to be no. 1 in Asia and number 4 in the world as the university that can produce solar energy on-campus.  The Climate Action is implemented alongside other environmental awareness campaigns, including electric cars, no plastic bags and green campus.   From a record of 7-11, our partner in Rangsit Centre, it reports that at least 800,000 plastic bags were less used throughout previous year.

As the first Thai university member of the International Sustainable Campus Network (ISCN) we commit to continue our mission to save our earth.  Solar roof will be installed in other centers, Ta Prachan, Lampang and Pattaya.  We can anticipate we will save as much as 40 per cent of annual expenses on energy usage.

Professor Dr. Puey Ungphakorn has been named among the world’s great personalities by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
 
Professor Dr. Puey Ungphakorn was approved to be the world’s great personalities by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), at the 38th session of the UNESCO's General Conference, held in Paris between 3 and 18 November 2015.
 
Dr. Puey Ungphakorn, educator and economist (1916-1999), Born in Bangkok in 1916, he started his career in 1933 as a teacher at Assumption College, and studied at Thammasat University. He is former Governor of the Bank of Thailand and Rector of Thammasat University during the Oct 6, 1976 massacre of students on campus by right-wing forces.

During World War II, Puey joined the Seri Thai underground movement to fight the Japanese occupation of Thailand.

THE 2ND LITU-CULI INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
ELT UNLIMITED organized by The Language Institute of Thammasat University (LITU) and Chulalongkorn University Language Institute (CULI). LITU and CULI call upon academics, scholars and practitioners to gather and share thoughts and ideas regarding various aspects of ELT in our biennial joint international conference, 2nd LITU-CULI international conference, held between October 6 and 7 at Pullman Bangkok King Power Hotel in Thailand. Participants will also gain insights of contemporary beliefs and practice in the ELT arena. It will be a great chance to establish and renew professional networks among acquaintances sharing the same line of profession.
